There always comes a time when you need to take off your super hero cape and lean on those close to you.
Having a good support system in your personal life is so very important. It doesn’t matter if that person is your family, your life partner, best friend, or a fellow chronie! If you are as fortunate as I am, you will have all of those in your life. The personal connection and understanding is priceless!
My mom is my hero! While working, finishing her degree, and raising me she did everything she could to get answers as to why I was so sick. She never gave up on me and she never doubted me when I told her how sick I was feeling.
My darling husband Chris is my rock! I had Crohns for almost 18 years before we met. He had a full understanding of my disease in no time. He was like an angel sent to me right from the beginning. We have had many trips to the ER, doctor and hospital over the last 8 1/2 years. He has always been there for me, even when I had to spend a week in Philadelphia. He would drive 40 minutes one way from a friends home to spend the day with me!
Best friends are wonderful! Especially someone who has survived serious illness, they know how much of a struggle it can be!
Fellow Cronies are something you just can’t explain…and I say that in a good way! You never know where you may run into one. I was lucky enough to find mine while I was enjoying a few days at my favorite spa (aka Ephrata Community Hospital!). She was my roomie. We had known each other in passing and through mutual friends for over 25 years. Over the last several months we have become closer and we both know that the other is always there no matter what.
Find those people in your life and hold them close to your heart. Never forget even the smallest thing they may have done for you!
