The summer weather has finally arrived! My younger daughter stopped over for a visit on Sunday — it’s becoming a regular visit and I love it! Some days the grandbabies come with!
Crohn’s disease often comes up. Now, you have to understand that this is something that my kids grew up with — once a crohnie, always a crohnie! They have seen me at my best and at my worst. All three of them have been troopers! Brit, my oldest, found out a few years ago that she has Crohn’s. My baby, Justin — a grown man now — was tested when he was seven. Luckily, 14 years later, he remains undiagnosed. Taylor, my middle daughter, is in the process of being tested.
The reason I wanted to bring them up is because it just brought to mind all of the things that went through my mind when I was young. It is a truly scary time not knowing what is going on. In the last 24 hours, both of my girls acknowledged the strength I’ve needed to battle Crohn’s. THEY, all three of them — grandbabies included — are MY motivation! What good would it do to hang my head and give up? Some people say, “Oh, you can use Crohn’s as an excuse to bail on plans!” Why would I want to do that? I may pass up on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Besides that, I believe in a little thing called Karma!
If you are struggling with a diagnosis; if you were in remission for a long time or know someone that is just starting their journey, stop and take a deep breath and start thinking about what you can do to help yourself or someone else keep their head up! You never know how a little card of goofy picture on Facebook will make someone feel. For me, that is the best medicine!
No recipe this time friends! Keep your head high and know that there are always better days!
