Screening and Prevention Tips from the American Gastroenterological Association

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month! Did you know that nearly 64,000 Americans are diagnosed with colorectal cancer each year? Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer­-related deaths in the United States.

However, with early detection, colorectal cancer is easily prevented! We recommend that patients undergo their first colonoscopy screening at age 50. Those with a family history of colorectal cancer, related cancers or certain health conditions should receive earlier screenings.
